BROWNSVILLE - CHANNEL 5 NEWS was there as a 19-year-old man was taken away in handcuffs. His San Benito apartment on Stenger Road was raided early this morning. Neighbors say they aren't surprised.
"It's horrible. It's not good. I'll tell you that much, but we kind of see that frequently around here," said Greg Cantu.
Vicky Gerdsen, another resident in the complex, moved in a year ago. She says drug deals, vandalism and graffiti are forcing her to move.
Police say the teen arrested today wasn't alone. He was living with two women, two young children, and an infant. Investigators say they've been watching the teen for some time. Gerdsen fears for the children living with the teen. "T
o subject those small children that kind of an environment -- doesn't that just prepare another generation for the same kind of life in the future," she asks. She says living at the complex has not been a positive experience.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old is expected to face a judge tomorrow. Child Protective Services is also investigating the case.
